How to easily track the downtime of company cars?
Excessive downtime of your employees and company cars leads to lost working time and therefore money for you. Therefore, first of all, you need to define which downtimes are important to track – those above or those below a certain time.

ToggleYou determine what length of downtime is harmful to productivity
If your company cars visit customer sites and the normal service time is 20 minutes, it is therefore important to track all downtimes exceeding 20 minutes. If your company cars are delayed for more than 20 minutes at a customer site, it is very likely that employees are using working time for personal needs. Of course, the latter may be allowed and regulated by company rules, but from the point of view of the efficiency of fleet use and the number of sites visited, it is good to have a picture of the duration of downtimes.
Smart Tracker software has an automated reference module
Almost every modern GPS system provides information about the duration of the stops, but if you have 20, 30, 50 or more company cars, you are unlikely to want to delve into the details of each specific stop. Then GPS systems with automated reference modules come to the rescue, where you can highlight the stops you are interested in and focus on them. This way you will be able to quickly receive information about deviations or undisciplined drivers, and take measures, having objective information.
This problem is easily solved with the “Duration of stops” report in VEM Technology’s Smart Tracker software.
“Duration of stops” – the productivity report of your company cars
The report provides information about all stops of a given vehicle, over the specified time, hiding data about its remaining movements or stops of normal duration. At the user’s request, the report can display only stays in desired regions.
Each reported long stay is recorded on a separate line in the report. The following information is displayed:
- Vehicle;
- Driver;
- Internal vehicle classification (if one has been entered for the vehicle);
- Start, end and duration of the stay;
- Address/name of the region where the stay was made.
The report also has a set of additional settings. You can select the following options:
- What is the duration of the stay to be classified as “Long”. (for example: Stay over 10 minutes, over 20 minutes, etc.);
- Whether to include only those stays that were made “inside” the selected regions, or only those that are “outside” them. An option is available that includes both types of stays;
- Include summary information – when this option is selected, the system will add an additional row to the report with summarized data on the mileage and movement of the vehicle for the selected period.

After making the settings, you can generate the report for the desired company cars and periods, and thus you will receive information only about the stops that interest you.
