Tolls in Poland are paid for all vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons. The toll road network covers motorways and national roads. It is managed by the national operator Szef KAS – eToll and three private operators – A1, A2 and A4. The eToll charging system is satellite-based, and the three private operators , A1, A2 and A4 , use video surveillance and DSCR technology.

For the purposes of tolling, vehicles are divided into 3 groups.

  • Vehicles with a maximum permissible mass in the range of more than 3.5 tonnes to 12 tonnes, including:
  • Cars with trailers, the weight of which, together with the trailer is more than 3.5 tons.

  • Minibuses with less than 9 seats, with a maximum authorized mass of the vehicle and trailer of more than 3.5 tonnes.

The toll network in Poland covers about 3600 km highways and main roads, divided into 2 groups. Group 1 includes Class A and S roads (motorways and expressways) .

Group 2 includes roads G and GP (main roads).

Tariffs for tolls in Poland

The price per kilometer of the toll network is determined by:

  • Road class:
    • Class A and S (motorways)
    • Class GP and G (main roads)
  • The ecological category of the vehicle
    • Euro 2
    • Euro 3
    • Euro 4
    • Euro 5
  • Weight category
    • Vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes up to 12 tonnes.
    • Vehicles over 12 tons.
    • Buses with more than 9 seats, regardless of weight.

Tariffs for motorways (class A and S) depending on the Euro category are between 0.56 and 0.21 PLN ( € 0, 12 and € 0.05) per kilometer. For main roads ( GP and G class) the price per kilometer is between 0.44 and 0.17 PLN ( € 0.1 and € 0.04) depending on the Euro category. Ways to pay tolls for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes

For the eToll network the ways to pay tolls for vehicles over 3.5 tons are through:

  • Board Unit OBU devices.
  • ELS (External Localization systems) devices.
  • e-TOLL PL – mobile phone application.

Depending on the service provider, toll payments may be prepaid or postpaid.
